National Conference 2016

A warm welcome for this year’s Danish Canadian Conference 2016 in Old Montreal

Each year, a Danish Canadian Club or Organization hosts the annual Danish Canadian Conference in their city on behalf of the Federation of Danish Associations in Canada. Typically two or three years in advance either a Club/Organization or the Federation reaches out to one another to make plans for a future conference.

Over many years, the conference has been hosted in various Canadian cities from Victoria, British Columbia to Montreal, Quebec and several cities between, such as for example, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa to name a few.

The local Club/Organization organize, produce and take full responsibility for their conference on behalf of the Federation. Immediately following the Conference is a Danish Canadian Heritage Seminar week organized and produced fully by the Federation. The Danish Canadian Museum is featured in the conference with a full day and evening including its AGM, lunch, and speakers, and this year includes a local museum tour. A local Danish Church in the host city hosts a closing lunch (smørrebrod) following a Church service.

This year’s conference promo sheet, program, registration form and Hotel reservation link – are provided below. Should you have any question or require more information, feel free to send an email to info@danishclubmontreal.com indicating your name and telephone number. You will be contacted promptly.

“Take a trip around the world”

click here for Danish Heritage Seminar pre publicity-2

A Danish Heritage Seminar will be held at the four-star Auberge aux 4 Saisons in Orford in the Eastern Townships of Québec from Monday, May 30 to Saturday, June 4, 2016. The theme is Take a trip around the world.

The Headmasters are Jørgen and Kirsten Flensted-Jensen. Pastor Jørgen has served as interim pastor in Grimsby, Brussels, and Edmonton. As well, Naomi Kramer will talk about the Holocaust Education and Genocide Prevention Centre in Montreal, and Aase Christensen will reveal a very interesting test: So you think you are Danish!

Other presentations will focus on Brussels, the capital of Europe, where we will hear about the European Union, the Danish Church and the nearby battlefields. We will hear about Ethiopia as well as about the beliefs and lifestyle of the Amish and the Mennonites. We will hear about Hans Christian Andersen and the Manor Houses on the isle of Fyn. There will be a presentation about Christian Marker, Alberta’s first Dairy Commissioner.

This year’s Seminar is an educational, inspiring and fun-filled course, which includes activities such as workshops, singing, walking and relaxing. An important aspect of the seminar is the friendship that quickly develops among the participants from across Canada and elsewhere.

The fee is this year only $789 per person double occupancy and includes a guest room, three meals daily, coffee breaks, lectures, free parking and all taxes and gratuities. For more information or a registration form contact Rolf Christensen at robuch@ca.inter.net or 613-747-9764.
